Big South Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 11
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford midfielder/forward
Alexeis Kirnos (Woodbridge, Va.) has been named the Big South Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville defender
Anna Doane (Jackson, Mich.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 4-10, it was announced today. In addition, Gardner-Webb goalkeeper
Stephanie Liu (Hualien, Taiwan) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Kirnos tallied two unassisted goals plus an assist for five points in two matches last week for the Highlanders. She opened her week with a score just :35 seconds into the match at Tennessee last Thursday -- the first goal by Radford against a power conference opponent since 2008, as well as marking Radford’s first lead against a power conference opponent since 2001. In Sunday’s 3-1 win over Appalachian State, Kirnos accounted for the game-winning goal and assisted on an insurance goal to move the Highlanders to 4-0 at home this season.
Doane helped Asheville record its fourth shutout of the season last Thursday as she was part of a backline that limited The Citadel to just two shots on net in the 0-0 draw. In Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Mercer, Doane’s first career goal in the 37th minute tied the match at 1-1.
Liu posted a 1-0-1 record, one shutout and a 1.00 GAA in 180:00 minutes in net for the Runnin’ Bulldogs. Making just the second and third appearances in her collegiate career, Liu made 18 total saves in the two contests -- eight in her first career victory on Thursday vs. VMI (1-0), followed by 10 stops on 22 shots faced in Sunday’s 2-2 draw vs. Wofford.
