Big South Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 5

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Winthrop midfielder Bryn Radvanski (Matawan, N.J.) has been named the Big South Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville defender Shae Hassig (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 28-Sept. 3, it was announced today.  In addition, Radford goalkeeper Lexi Radvanyi (Leesburg, Va.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
 
Radvanski had three goals, two assists and eight points in two Winthrop victories last week.  She opened with a goal and an assist in the Eagles’ victory over Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday.  Radvanski then recorded a brace and assisted on another score in Winthrop’s win over South Carolina State on Saturday.
 
Hassig helped the Bulldogs capture wins over Southern Conference foes Wofford and Furman last week.  She was part of a backline that shut out the Terriers, 1-0 and permitted just seven shots on goal.  Hassig’s effort against the Paladins included the eventual game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory.
 
Radvanyi posted a 1-0-1 record and two clean sheets in 180:00 minutes in net for the Highlanders.  She first faced 13 shots and made two saves in Radford’s 0-0 draw at Richmond on Thursday.  Radvanyi then saved three attempts among the six shots she faced in the Highlanders’ 5-0 win over Hampton on Sunday.
 
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Dakota Fiedler (Charleston Southern), Lindsey Malyszek (Presbyterian), Kaiya Boyd (UNC Asheville) and Dara Russo (USC Upstate).
 
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Sara Curtis (Charleston Southern), Jillian Silverstone (Radford) and Izzy Giarrizzi (Winthrop).
 
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Claire Deangelis (Charleston Southern), Emilia Lieber (Presbyterian) and Sophia Balliet (Winthrop).
