Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 2
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Presbyterian College center Bryanna Brady (Goodyear, Ariz.) and UNC Asheville guard McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (Columbia, S.C.) have been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for games played Dec. 26-31, it was announced today. In addition, Radford guard Joi Williams (Ashburn, Va.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Brady scored a season-high 27 points in Presbyterian’s 62-53 victory over Columbia College on Dec. 31. She shot 11-of-15 from the field ( =73.3 percent) and added four rebounds, two assists and one block. Defensively, she also helped the Blue Hose hold the Koalas scoreless for a period of 11 minutes to key a 17-0 run for PC late in the second half.
Brooks-Sumpter posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 72-34 win over Brevard on Dec. 29. It marked her second double-double of the season. She finished 7-of-9 from the field ( =77.8 percent) and added two assists and one block. Her 12 rebounds were both a game and season high.
Williams collected career highs with 11 points and eight rebounds in Radford’s lone tilt last week at Vanderbilt. After moving into a starting role, she posted her first double-digit scoring performance for the Highlanders in 32 minutes of action. She added two assists and one steal, while her eight boards finished as a team high.
