Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week - Jan. 24
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford University’s Julia Abrams (Mooresville, N.C.) has been named the Big South Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville’s Louise Booker (Lowestoft, Suffolk, U.K.) is the Women’s Freshman of the Week honoree for matches played Jan. 15-21, it was announced today.
Abrams won at No. 1 singles over Virgina Tech’s Özlem Uslu with a 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 1-0 (11-9) comeback victory to become the first Highlander to defeat a power five opponent since 2021. She also competed at No. 1 doubles alongside teammate Lexi Smolder where they were edged 7-6(2) in a tiebreaker.
Booker won at the No. 2 flight in both singles and doubles to help UNC Asheville to a 6-1 season-opening victory over UNC Greensboro on Sunday. She won her singles match in straight sets (7-6, 6-4), and paired with teammate Angelina Joy Hug for a 6-3 doubles win.
