CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – ESPNU announced today that the network will televise the Saturday, April 6 Longwood at USC Upstate softball game at 4:00pm from Cyrill Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.  The broadcast will be the series finale between the teams that were predicted as the Big South’s co-favorites in 2024 and have been among the league’s top softball squads the past five seasons.

It will be the second televised match-up between the programs on ESPNU, as Longwood won the first national TV meeting, 2-1 in 15 innings back on March 24, 2019.  Since Upstate became Big South members in 2019, the Spartans have gone 65-25 in league games ( =72.2 winning percentage) and 173-66 overall during that time ( =72.4 percent), while the Lancers are 70-22 in conference play ( =76.1 percent) and 139-106 overall.

To accommodate the ESPNU production, the three-game series has been adjusted.  The series will now begin with a doubleheader on Friday, April 5 at 4:00 and 6:00 pm, with both contests televised on ESPN+.

The April 6 broadcast marks the 17th consecutive season Big South softball will be televised on a linear network.  Upstate’s appearance will be its fourth-straight season on ESPNU, while Longwood will be making its fifth overall.

Both squads open the 2024 season with tournaments the weekend of Feb. 9-11.  Longwood will play in the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic against the host Yellow Jackets, Alabama and Villanova, while Upstate hosts the annual Spartan Classic featuring Loyola-Chicago, Towson, Toledo and South Carolina State.
