Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week - Feb. 14
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford’s Julia Abrams (Mooresville, N.C.) has been named the Big South Women’s Tennis Player of the week, while UNC Asheville’s Alexis Nyborg (Moreland Hills, Ohio) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for matches played Feb. 5-11, it was announced today.
Abrams collected her second win over a power conference opponent, as she defeated West Virginia’s Alexis Love-Star in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the top flight. Abrams also earned a 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 victory in the No. 1 spot in Sunday’s match against Cleveland State’s Oihane Vicario.
In Saturday’s match against Chattanooga, Nyborg won 7-5, 6-3, to clinch the No. 3 singles court and help the Bulldogs secure their 4-3 victory. In Sunday’s contest against Tennessee State, she picked up another straight-set victory in the No. 3 singles spot, 6-2, 6-2, as part of UNC Asheville's 7-0 sweep of Tennessee State.
Also nominated for Big South Women’s Tennis Player of the Week: Oriana Izarra (Longwood), McKenzie Davis (Presbyterian), and Louise Booker (UNC Asheville).
Also nominated for Big South Women’s Freshman of the Week: Mathilde Delaney (Presbyterian).
