Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week - Feb. 7

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Presbyterian College’s Claudia Sanchez (Betera, Valencia, Spain) has been named the Big South Women’s Tennis Player of the week, while UNC Asheville’s Angelina Joy Hug (Murten, Switzerland) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for matches played Jan. 29-Feb. 4, it was announced today. 

Sanchez went 3-0 in all singles matches played last week.  She won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles against Lander, and then 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 at the No. 3 flight over Costal Carolina.  Sanchez concluded her week with a 7-5, 6-2 straight set victory over UNC Wilmington on the No. 2 court.

In Saturday’s match against Lenoir-Rhyne, Hug competed at No. 4 singles where she posted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 win.  She also competed alongside teammate Louise Booker at No. 2 doubles on Sunday where the duo defeated Davidson, 6-0.

Also Nominated for Player of the Week: Jessica Braun (Charleston Southern), Emily Brandow (Radford) and Linge Steenkamp (UNC Asheville).

Also Nominated for Women’s Freshman of the Week: Michaela Stephens (Radford).
