Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - March 11

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Gardner-Webb’s Andrea Lyon (West Columbia, S.C.) has been named the Big South Player of the Week, while Presbyterian College’s Jenna Greene (Hamlet, N.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played March 4-10, it was announced today.  In addition, Presbyterian College’s Kasey Wolfe (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Charleston Southern’s Nealy Lamb (Cades, S.C.) are Co-Freshman of the Week. 

Lyon made dual contributions with strong performances at the plate and in the circle, leading Gardner-Webb to a perfect 4-0 record at the Western Carolina Tournament. In the circle she tossed 16.1. innings allowing two runs (one earned) and recording 21 strikeouts. She earned a win against Kent State allowing two runs on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Earned second win against Western Carolina (6 innings) as she tossed 4.0 innings allowing two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Lyon batted .462 with an on-base percentage of .500 and a .875 slugging percentage. She hit a solo home run for a 1-0 lead in the win over Kent State and drove in the first run in the win over North Carolina Central, finishing the game with two RBI. Had a two-run double as part of an 8-run sixth inning in the win over Western Carolina. Ended the weekend with a two-run double for a 4-0 lead in the second win over North Carolina Central.  

Greene helped the Blue Hose to a pair of wins last week over Wofford and Jacksonville. She was 2-1 with an ERA of 1.89 and had 15 strikeouts. Opened the week with a four-hit shutout in 8.0 innings against Wofford, finishing with nine strikeouts. Battled her team to a 5-2 victory over Jacksonville to complete the weekend. Finished the game by retiring the final nine batters against Jacksonville.

Wolfe batted .308 on the week (4-13) to help lead PC to a couple of wins. Posted an on-base percentage of .412 while batting and slugging .308. Wolfe had the game-winning RBI single in the eight inning win over Wofford. In the win over Jacksonville she drove in two runs that included a go-ahead run for a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, her second game-winning RBI of the week. 

Lamb made three appearances last weekend allowing earning a win and a save to help Charleston Southern to a 3-1 record. She began the week with a complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory over Merrimack, as she allowed just two hits with two walks and a career-high nine strikeouts. In the win over Massachusetts, Lamb earned her third save of the season, striking out the only batter she faced to secure the win. For the week she totaled 15 total strikeouts (12.1 innings) allowing just one earned run on five hits.
