Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week - March 13

UNC Asheville Sweeps Big South Conference Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville has swept the Big South Conference’s Women’s Tennis weekly awards, with Linge Steenkamp (Bloemfontein, South Africa) earning Player of the Week and Alexis Nyborg (Moreland Hills, Ohio) being named Freshman of the Week.  

Asheville beat North Carolina Central on Monday (Mar. 4) 5-2, Gardner-Webb 6-1 on Thursday (Mar. 7) and lost to Wofford 4-3 on Sunday (Mar. 10). 

Steenkamp, a senior from Bloemfontein, South Africa teamed up with Ari Siegel for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles before dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles against NC Central. She then posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Gardner-Webb. She again teamed up with Siegel for a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles before winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles against Wofford. 

Nyborg, a freshman from Moreland Hills, Ohio posted a 3-0 record in singles play at No. 3 on the week. 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against North Carolina Central and a 7-6 (5-0), 6-4 win at No. 3 singles against Gardner-Webb, before finishing off the week with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 No. 3 singles against Wofford.
