Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 23

Adrienne Visintine (Parker, Colo.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while teammate
Andrea Lyon (West Columbia, S.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played April 15-21, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood’s
Cierra Gawryluk (Suffolk, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Visintine batted .500 (6-12) with five runs batted in and two runs scored as the Runnin’ Bulldogs won three of four contests last week. In GWU’s doubleheader sweep of Western Carolina last Tuesday, she was a combined 3-6 with three RBI. Visintine then reached base in both games against first-place USC Upstate, including a 3-4 effort with two runs batted in and a stolen base in GWU’s 4-3 win in the series opener.
Lyon was 2-0 in the circle with a 1.85 earned run average and eight strikeouts in 11.1 innings pitched. She opened her week with a complete game, 4-hit shutout against Western Carolina, which featured no walks and six strikeouts. Lyon picked up her second win of the week Saturday when she allowed just two hits in 4.1 innings in a 4-3 win over USC Upstate.
Gawryluk collected a win and a save in four appearances last week for the Lancers, and finished with a 1.83 ERA in 15.1 innings with seven punchouts. After recording two strikeouts in 3.2 relief innings at James Madison last Tuesday, she appeared in all three contests against Radford. In the first game with the Highlanders, she struck out a batter in 1.2 frames. Gawryluk started the second game and earned her first career win with a 4-hit complete game shutout. She wrapped her weekend with three strikeouts as part of a three-inning save in Sunday’s series finale.
