Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - April 29
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Presbyterian College’s
Joel Dragoo (Beckville, Texas) and USC Upstate’s
Koby Kropf (Clovis, Calif.) have been named the Big South Baseball Co-Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb’s
Blake Brogdon (Cypress Woods, Texas) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played April 22-28, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood’s
Sean Gibbons (Roanoke, Va.) was selected the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while GWU’s
Gavin Johnson (Youngsville, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Dragoo batted .571 (8-14) along with six runs scored, four RBI and two home runs in helping the Blue Hose to a 3-1 week. He also walked four times and stole two bases. Dragoo opened with a 4-4 day with two doubles and a homer in PC’s win over Georgia State on Wednesday. He followed with another home run and two hits in the series-opening win over USC Upstate, posted a hit, RBI and two walks in game two, and finished with two runs, a hit and RBI in the series finale.
Kropf hit .571 (8-14) with six runs batted in, five runs scored, one double, three home runs – one in each game at Presbyterian, and slugged 1.286. He belted a homer in all three games at Presbyterian. Kropf opened the series with a double and homer for two RBI, then went 5-5 with a home run and two runs scored in Upstate’s game two victory. He concluded the weekend with a 3-RBI day, including a 2-run homer, with two runs scored.
Brogdon hurled a complete game with five strikeouts in the series-opening win at Radford on Friday. He allowed one earned run, scattered six hits, and retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced.
Gibbons struck out seven batters in 6.0 relief innings to earn the victory in Longwood’s series-opening win over UNC Asheville on Friday. He allowed just three hits and two walks, and held the Bulldogs to a .143 batting average. Gibbons retired the final six batters -- four by strikeout.
Johnson hit .667 (6-9) with two runs, two RBI, one triple, three walks and two steals in three appearances last week. He opened with a 3-4 day and run scored at nationally-ranked North Carolina on Tuesday. Johnson then was 2-3 with a triple, two walks and two stolen bases in Gardner-Webb’s series-opening win over Radford on Friday. He followed with a walk, single and RBI in game two against the Highlanders.
