CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville men’s tennis player Brann Reid (Hickory, N.C.) has been voted the 2023-24 Big South Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced today by the league office.  The annual Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year are voted on by the Big South Sports Information Directors from a pool of each sport’s Scholar-Athlete winner during the past season.

Reid is the first Bulldog since 2018-19 and fourth overall to be voted the Big South’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  He concluded his undergraduate career with a 4.00 GPA as a double major in Biology/Health & Wellness Promotion, and earned the Big South’s prestigious Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence this past spring.  Reid helped UNC Asheville win the 2024 Big South Men’s Tennis Championship in April, and went 16-5 in singles play -- including 14 wins at No. 3 and 3-1 in conference.  He teamed up with Rafa Serra at No. 1 doubles to go 11-5 en route to First-Team All-Conference honors.  Reid was voted the Big South Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was named to the Big South Men’s Tennis All-Academic Team, and earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year.  The 2021 Big South Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year, Reid’s career achievements include three Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors (2021, 2022, 2023), as well as being a four-time All-Conference selection in doubles (2021-22-23-24), as well as a two-time All-Big South honoree for singles play (2021-22).

In the voting, Reid finished with 30 points (three first-place votes), just ahead of Presbyterian cross country runner William Johnson (29 points, two first-place votes) and Gardner-Webb basketball player Lucas Stieber (21 points, three first-place votes).
