Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 20

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Longwood forward Brando Bedolla (Greenville, S.C.) and Winthrop midfielder Bernardo Pacheco (Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal) have been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Presbyterian College goalkeeper Tim Baerwalde (Frankfurt, Germany) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 13-19, it was announced today. In addition, High Point forward Prosper Adagani (Techiman, Ghana) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
 
Bedolla scored two goals in 39 seconds in the second half to help Longwood force a 2-2 draw against Winthrop Friday night. Trailing by two, the sophomore capitalized on a short corner to cut the lead in half at the 65:34 mark. Less than a minute later, he then forced and scored off a turnover at 66:13 to help the Lancers come from behind and earn a point in the standings. Bedolla played all 90 minutes. 
 
Pacheco scored both goals in Winthrop’s 2-2 draw at Longwood, his first two goals of his season. He totaled three shots, with both goals coming in the opening 13 minutes. The senior opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a strike from 35 yards out, then added his second at the 12:28 mark to give the Eagles a two-goal lead. The brace was the first of Pacheco’s Winthrop career. He played all 180 minutes across two matches during the week.
 
Baerwalde finished an unbeaten week for Presbyterian with eight saves, one shutout and a .889 save percentage. He allowed just one goal on 13 shots faced across two matches. The senior made four saves in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Queens, helping the Blue Hose become the first of five Big South teams to earn a result against the Royals this season. He followed with a shutout on Saturday at UNC Asheville, making four saves on eight shots to help PC earn a point in the league standings. Baerwalde played all 180 minutes in net for the week.
 
Adagani notched the second brace of his collegiate career with both goals in High Point’s 2-0 win at Radford. The freshman broke a scoreless tie with the eventual game winner in the 53rd minute before adding a second goal less than 10 minutes later in the 62nd. He put three of his four shots on target in 49 minutes off the bench to lead the Panthers to a fifth straight win in conference play.
