Big South Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 6
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville midfielder
Akari Kishida (Tokyo, Japan) has been named the Big South Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Longwood’s
Sydney Robertson (Newport News, Va.) and Radford goalkeeper
Lexi Radvanyi (Leesburg, Va.) are the Co-Defensive Players of the Week for matches played Sept. 29-Oct. 5, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood forward
Sam Fischer (Charlottesville, Va.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Kishida tallied two unassisted goals in helping the Bulldogs to a 1-0-1 record last week. She first scored the game-tying goal at Presbyterian in the 80th minute of an eventual draw with the Blue Hose on Wednesday. Kishida then tallied an Olympico in the 67th minute at Winthrop on Saturday that gave Asheville an insurance goal in the 2-0 victory over the Eagles.
Robertson anchored the Lancer defense that recorded back-to-back 1-0 shutouts against High Point and Presbyterian. She played all 90 minutes in both matches, and helped the backline limit HPU to two shots on goal on Wednesday, and just four shots on net to the Blue Hose.
Radvanyi made a career-high 10 saves in Radford’s 2-1 win over USC Upstate in a meeting of the league’s top two teams. She faced 17 shots total with 11 on goal, and made multiple diving stops in the contest. With the game tied at 1-1 midway through the second half, Radvanyi made three crucial back-to-back-to-back saves during the 67th through 70th minutes before the Highlanders took the lead for good.
