Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 10

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – High Point guard Macy Spencer (Katy, Texas) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Longwood guard Jesstynie Scott (Americus, Ga.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played during the opening week of the regular season, it was announced today.
 
Spencer averaged 20.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for High Point, highlighted by a career-high 24 points in a win over Wofford. She shot 45.2 percent from the field (14-of-31) and 43.8 percent from 3-point range (7-of-16). The Katy, Texas, native made her HPU debut with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from distance, in a 58-point victory over Johnson C. Smith. She followed with a career-best performance against the Terriers, scoring 14 of her 24 points in the second half, including nine in the third quarter, to help erase a 13-point deficit. Spencer added three rebounds, two assists and a steal, went 5-for-5 from the free throw line, and logged 39 minutes in the 81-73 win over Wofford.
 
Scott averaged 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.0 steals to help Longwood open the season 2-0 for the first time since 2006-07. The freshman tallied 13 points, seven steals, four rebounds and two assists in her debut as the Lancers defeated Randolph, 121-35, on Wednesday. She followed with 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals in an 80-42 win over Western Kentucky, marking Longwood’s first victory against a Conference USA opponent since 2005. Scott shot 50.0 percent from the field (9-of-18) and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-9) for the week.
