Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 24
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern guard Brycen Blaine (Richmond, Va.) and High Point forward Cam’Ron Fletcher (St. Louis, Mo.) have been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Gardner-Webb guard Spence Sims (Fairhope, Ala.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for games played Nov. 17-23, it was announced today.
Blaine averaged 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds off the bench in the Buccaneers’ victories over IU Indy and East Carolina. He opened with 19 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and 3-of-6 from three-point range in CSU’s home win over IU Indy last Tuesday. Blaine followed with 23 points, 12 caroms, one assist and one steal in the Bucs’ triumph in Greenville last Friday, which included four treys. For the week, he was 7-of-14 from beyond the arc ( =50.0) and made 11-of-13 from the charity stripe ( =84.6).
In three wins last week, Fletcher turned in averages of 19.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals, was 12-of-12 from the free throw line, and was the MVP of the Boardwalk Battle. He opened with 12 points in just 16 minutes in last Monday’s victory over Canisius. Fletcher then scored a career-high 27 points and was 9-of-12 from the field against Illinois-Chicago in the Panthers’ Boardwalk Battle opener. He closed the weekend with an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double in the Boardwalk Battle title game vs. Incarnate Word. For the week, Fletcher was 20-of-32 from the floor ( =62.5 percent).
Sims contributed 13.5 points in Gardner-Webb’s contests at DePaul and Richmond last week. He started with 10 points, one assist and one steal in 18 minutes off the bench against the Blue Demons on Tuesday. Sims then led the Runnin’ Bulldogs with a career-high 17 points against the Spiders on Saturday, as he made 5-of-9 three-pointers and was 6-of-11 overall from the field in 24 minutes of action. For the week, Sims was 9-of-15 shooting ( =60.0 percent), including 7-of-11 from long range ( =63.6).
