CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford guard Dennis Parker Jr. (Richmond, Va.) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville forward Myles Mayfield (Orlando, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for games played Dec. 8-14, it was announced today.

Parker broke the Big South Conference and Radford single-game scoring record with 53 points in Sunday’s win over Coppin State.  It was the most points scored by a Division I player this season, and the most by any Division I player since Dec. 13, 2019.  Parker scored 35 points in the second half, was 19-of-24 overall from the field ( =79.2 percent) -- the most field goals ever made by a Highlander, and made 10-of-14 three-point attempts ( =71.4).  He added eight rebounds plus an assist and steal during his record-breaking performance.  Parker eclipsed the previous Radford high of 43 points, and bettered the conference record of 51 that was set in 2017.

Mayfield averaged 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in addition to an 87.5 field goal percentage (7-of-8) in games last week against Miami (Ohio) and St. Thomas-Minn.  He opened the week with his second double-figure scoring game of the year with 10 points against Miami last Wednesday, along with a season-high three assists plus seven rebounds.  On Saturday, Mayfield was the squad’s top rebounder against St. Thomas with a season-best eight boards, and was the team’s leading scorer off the bench with seven markers.
