Big South Announces Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Feb. 20
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Feb. 13-16.
Charleston Southern’s
Micah Gilpatric (Greenville, S.C.) was selected the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, High Point’s
Ricardo Montes de Oca was tabbed the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, and UNC Asheville’s
Shemarr Session (Marietta, Ga.) earned the Men’s Freshman of the Week honor.
Gilpatric ran a career-best and school-record time of 13:50.29 in the 5,000m run at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. His effort is seventh all-time in Big South history, and he finished 60th out of 212 professional and collegiate runners in the event.
Montes de Oca cleared 5.40m in the pole vault at the Division I Pre-Nationals Meet for his fifth victory in six starts this indoor season.
Session posted the Big South’s top time this season in the 60m Hurdles with an 8.16 at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. He also ran the 200m in 21.35, and helped the Bulldogs’ 4x400m relay finish fourth with a time of 3:15.40 -- second-fastest in school history.
