Big South Announces Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - April 30
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions this past weekend of April 24-27.
UNC Asheville’s
DaMarr Harvey (Greenville, N.C.) was voted Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, High Point’s
Justin Sluijter (Arkel, Netherlands) was tabbed the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honoree, while Asheville’s
Shemarr Session (Marietta, Ga.) received the Men’s Freshman of the Week honor.
Harvey took silver in both the 100m and 200m at the Catamount Classic. He ran a time of 10.32 in the 100m (+3.1 wind) and 21.28 in the 200m. Harvey also helped the Bulldogs’ relay teams to a first-place finish in the 4x100m (39.97) and runner-up finish in the 4x400m (3:15.44).
Sluijter was the Penn Relays Champion in the College Long Jump with a leap of 7.58m, marking his third individual title of the outdoor season.
Session had the top qualifying mark in the 110m Hurdles at the Catamount Classic with a PR time of 14.20 -- second-fastest in the Big South this season and No. 3 in program history. He was also a member of the winning 4x100m relay as well as the 4x400m runner-up squad.
