Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 15
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – High Point midfielder
Mo Guettel (Freiburg, Germany) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville goalkeeper
Lucca Barros (Mint Hill, N.C.) and High Point defender
Lukas Kamrath (Tampa, Fla.) are the Defensive Co-Players of the Week for matches played Sept. 8-14, it was announced today. In addition, High Point forward
Prosper Adagani (Techiman, Ghana) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Guettel headed in the equalizer in the 87th minute of High Point’s 2-2 draw with No. 10 Marshall on Tuesday. Just one minute after the Herd gained the lead, the graduate student netted his first goal as a Panther off a free kick from Jefferson Amaya to even the match and secure the draw against a top-10 opponent. Guettel closed the week with three shots in 101 minutes of action across two HPU games.
Barros made four saves to record his first career shutout in UNC Asheville’s 2-0 road win at Wofford. The freshman stopped two shots in each half, including an 84th-minute attempt to preserve the Bulldogs’ first shutout and first road victory of the season. He faced eight shots in total while playing the full 90 minutes.
Kamrath scored his first goal of the season and later made a header save to help High Point secure a 2-2 draw against No. 10 Marshall on Wednesday. The redshirt sophomore put the Panthers on the board in the 7th minute off a corner kick before denying the Herd’s equalizer in the 67th. He then played all 90 minutes in Sunday’s shutout of Central Arkansas, anchoring a defense that limited UCA to eight shots and just three on goal.
Adagani recorded his first career brace in High Point’s win over Central Arkansas to cap an unbeaten week for the Panthers. The freshman scored in the 39th minute to give HPU a 2-0 halftime lead and added his second in the 55th off a rebound to extend the advantage to 3-0. He placed three of his four shots on goal in 100 minutes of action across two matches.
