Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 26

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Radford guard Joi Williams (Leesburg, Va.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Longwood guard Jesstynie Scott (Americus, Ga.) and Radford forward Georgia Simonsen (Fairfax, Va.) are the Co-Freshmen of the Week for games played Jan. 19-25, it was announced today.
 
Williams averaged 22.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists to lead Radford to a pair of conference wins. She shot 64.0 percent from the field (16-of-25), 46.7 percent from 3-point range (7-of-15) and 100.0 percent from the free throw line (5-of-5), while adding 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. Against Longwood on Wednesday, the junior missed just two shots (8-of-10) en route to a game-high 23 points and matched a season high with six rebounds. In Friday’s win over UNC Asheville, Williams scored 21 points and ended a late Bulldogs run with a three-point play with under five minutes remaining. She also set a career high with two blocks.
 
Scott averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds while leading Longwood in scoring in both games off the bench. She shot 52.2 percent from the field (12-of-23) and 85.7 percent from the free throw line (6-of-7). The freshman opened the week with 12 points, four rebounds and three steals on 5-of-10 shooting at Radford. She followed with a career-high 20 points while matching a career best with seven steals in a win over USC Upstate, all in just 15 minutes of action. Scott also made one 3-pointer in each game.
 
Simonsen averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 blocks in two Highlanders victories. She shot 57.1 percent from the floor (12-of-21) and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The freshman forward set career highs with 18 points and eight made field goals in Radford’s 15-point win over Longwood on Wednesday, while also tying a career high with three blocks. She added 10 points, a team-high six rebounds and two blocks against UNC Asheville. Simonsen recorded three assists in each contest.
