Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 23

A’lahn Sumler (Waterbury, Conn.) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville forward
Myles Mayfield (Orlando, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for games played Feb. 16-22, it was announced today.
Sumler averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two games last week. He opened with 27 points, seven rebounds and two steals in leading the Buccaneers to a 75-66 victory over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday. Sumler then recorded the Big South’s first triple-double in a conference game since 2021 -- as well as CSU’s first triple-double in six years -- with 29 points, 11 caroms and 10 assists in the Bucs’ double-overtime setback against Longwood on Saturday. For the week, he was 20-of-41 from the field ( =48.8 percent) and 13-of-15 from the charity stripe ( =86.7).
Mayfield contributed 8.0 points and 7.0 rebounds -- including eight total on the offensive glass, in two games off the bench for the Bulldogs last week. He was the team’s second-leading scorer at High Point on Thursday with 11 points -- his most against a Division I opponent this year, and tallied five offensive boards (six total) plus an assist, block and steal in 21 minutes. In Saturday’s overtime win over Radford, Mayfield pulled down eight rebounds and scored five points.
