Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 23

Cassie Gallagher (Cookeville, Tenn.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville guard
Jamaria Freeman (Wilson, N.C.) is the Freshmen of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22, it was announced today.
Gallagher tied for USC Upstate’s team-high in scoring in both games as the Spartans defeated two of the top three teams in the Big South standings. She averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the week. The redshirt sophomore recorded 11 points and seven rebounds, with one assist, one block and one steal, in a 57-52 win at Radford. She followed with 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting and three assists in a 65-63 double-overtime victory over Longwood, scoring seven of her 16 points in the two overtime periods.
Freeman averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for UNC Asheville. She added 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. The freshman totaled 15 points and five assists against High Point, knocking down a career-high four triples as the Bulldogs fell by five to the first-place team in the Big South. She then went for 17 points, six assists and three rebounds in a 76-58 win over Presbyterian, adding two blocks and three steals. Freeman finished the week shooting 11-of-16 from the free throw line ( =68.8 percent), including a 10-of-14 effort against the Blue Hose.
