Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - March 10

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Gardner-Webb infielder Reese Collier (Brandon, Miss.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Winthrop’s Lonna Addison (Salisbury, N.C.) and Longwood’s Maggie Chapin (Shawnee, Kan.) shared the Pitcher of the Week award for games played March 2-8, it was announced today.  In addition, USC Upstate infielder Alyssa Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
 
Collier helped the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 4-1 week with a .471 batting average (8-17) with four home runs, 13 RBI, eight runs scored, a .500 on-base percentage and 1.176 slugging clip.  She homered in four of the five games played, tallied three multi-hit games and four multi-RBI performances -- including 5 RBI in the second game of a doubleheader at N.C. Central.  Collier helped GWU win its weekend series at West Georgia with four RBI in the series clincher.
 
Addison was a perfect 3-0 on the week with 16 strikeouts and a 1.56 earned run average, as she had two wins as a starter and another in relief to help the Eagles to a 4-1 weekend.  She tossed a two-hit shutout with a walk and nine strikeouts in a complete game win over Georgia State on Friday.  Addison followed that win with another complete game victory over ETSU where she allowed just one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.   She earned her relief win to wrap-up the weekend with a 9-6 win over Bucknell with four strikeouts in four innings in the circle. 
 
Chapin was 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA and three complete games in four appearances in the Longwood Spring Break Classic, where she struck out 30 batters across 22.2 innings of work.  She opened with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings out of the bullpen against Youngstown State, then defeated Le Moyne with six strikeouts, six hits allowed and an unearned run in the 7-1 victory.  Chapin followed with eight Ks and two runs allowed in a 4-2 win over YSU, and concluded her weekend with 12 strikeouts in an 8-4 win over Lafayette on Sunday.
 
Davenport batted .462 (6-13) with two runs scored, three RBI and a double in four starts against Central Michigan.  She opened with a 3-4 day with a run and RBI in the opener, followed by a run-scoring double in game three, and two hits and RBI in the finale as the Spartans went 2-2.
