CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- USC Upstate outfielder Taliyah Thomas (Iron Station, N.C.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Radford’s Dakota Redmon (Stokesdale, N.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 23-March 1, it was announced today.  In addition, Longwood infielder Lauren Faulkner (Holly Spring, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

Thomas started and appeared in eight games and batted .600 (15-for-25) at the plate with two home runs, nine RBI, two doubles, and four stolen bases.  Thomas had five games where she added two or more hits while having a four-RBI game against Furman.  She finished with a .920 slugging percentage and .607 on-base clip.

Redmon was back to form for the Highlanders last week as she tossed two gems and earned a pair of complete game wins for the Highlanders over Liberty and UConn.  In the weekend opener at Liberty, Redmon was dominant allowing just three baserunners for her first shutout of the season.  In the victory over UConn, she shrugged off an early homer, struck out five, and steadied the ship for the eventual 5-2 win.  Redmon finished with a 1.00 earned run average in 14.0 innings of work.

Faulkner batted .438 (7-for-16) with two doubles, one home run, six RBIs and a team-best 10 runs scored in a 6-1 week for the Lancers, which included a 6-0 performance in their home Bank of the James invitational against Youngstown State, Mount St. Mary’s, Hampton and Penn.  She hit safety in all six games of the tournament, posting two-hit outings against Hampton and Penn on Saturday.  Faulkner scored runs in each game of the tournament, hit a three-run homer in the Lancers’ 8-0 win versus the Mountaineers on Friday, and slugged .737 overall for the week.
