Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week - March 25

Amike Botha (Pretoria, South Africa) and Presbyterian’s
Roxy Valdes (La Habana, Cuba) have been named Co-Freshman of the Week.
van Eijkelenburg helped Longwood to a 2-1 week with road wins over Norfolk State and Charleston Southern, 4-3 and 4-2 respectively. She was 2-0 at Charleston Southern with wins at No. 2 doubles (6-4) and No. 3 singles (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) as the Lancers defeated the Buccaneers for the first time in 13 matches since the series began in 2013.
Botha delivered a standout week, going a perfect 2-0 in singles play with a pair of impressive victories. She battled past NJIT’s Lusia Hepcal Barcan for a straight-set victory on the No. 6 court (7-5, 6-0), followed by another straight-set win (7-6, 6-4) against Longwood’s Nicole Di Bisceglia. On the doubles court, Botha teamed up with her sister Carle for a 6-2 victory against NJIT at the No. 2 flight.
Valdes went undefeated in her three singles matches for the Blue Hose. On Thursday, she picked up a come-from-behind three-set victory over Paula Alvarez of NJIT on court two to help PC rally for a 4-3 win over the Highlanders. She followed that win with her debut on the top singles court on Saturday and Sunday, and recorded back-to-back straight-set victories against N.C. Central (6-3, 6-3) and UNC Greensboro (6-4, 6-4). Valdes also tallied a doubles win on Sunday against the Spartans, posting a 6-0 win on court three with partner Ladina Bruhin.
