Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - March 30

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Radford infielder/pitcher Dakota Redmon (Stokesdale, N.C.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Winthrop’s Emmy Cardenas (La Jolla, Calif.) is the Pitcher of the Week honoree for games played March 23-29, it was announced today.  In addition, Longwood infielder Lauren Faulkner (Holly Springs, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week recipient.
 
Redmon hit .667 (8-12) with seven RBI plus a home run, double and three runs scored while slugging 1.000 and posting a .643 on-base percentage.  In addition, she was 2-0 in the circle with 11 strikeouts and a .188 batting average allowed across 13.0 innings pitched as the Highlanders swept Presbyterian during their four-game week.  Redmon started her week with a 2-3 day at Charlotte on Tuesday, then tallied two RBI in the 5-0 series opening win over Presbyterian on Friday.  In that contest, she tossed a complete game one-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.  Redmon went 3-3 at the plate with a double, home run and three RBI in game two vs. PC, and concluded her weekend with another 2-3 offensive effort along with two runs driven in while fanning six batters in six innings for the win.
 
Cardenas posted a 2.55 earned run average with zero walks in three appearances, which included a complete game win over Charleston Southern in the second game of the series.  She began her week with two scoreless and hitless innings at Queens on Tuesday, and then started the opener at CSU with two scoreless frames.  In game two vs. the Bucs, Cardenas allowed just one run on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts in six innings to earn the victory and clinch the series.
 
Faulkner batted .467 (9-15) with eight runs scored, nine RBI, three home runs, one double, a .529 on-base percentage and a 1.133 slugging percentage in five games last week.  She finished with three multi-hit games, scored four runs in the Lancers’ 13-6 win at N.C. Central -- the first Longwood player with this achievement in 11 years, and tallied a career-high four RBI in game two against USC Upstate.
