CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) -- For the first time since becoming members of the Big South Conference in 2013, Longwood University has earned the No. 1 seed in the Big South Women’s Tennis Championship, it was announced this afternoon.  The Lancers clinched their first-ever Women’s Tennis regular-season title, as Longwood finished the conference season 3-1 and shared the championship with Charleston Southern and UNC Asheville.  Longwood received the No. 1 seed based on the league’s tiebreaker procedure.

The three teams went 1-1 against each other, so the next step was combined aggregate score among the tied teams.  Longwood and CSU each totaled a score of 7-6 in the head-to-head matches, while Asheville went 6-8 to land the No. 3 seed.  With a two-way remaining, Longwood clinched the top spot based on its 4-2 head-to-head regular-season victory over the Bucs, who will be the No. 2 seed.

Once the regular-season champion(s) is seeded, associate members are then inserted into the bracket based on national ranking.  Associate member NJIT is the No. 4 seed based on its ITA ranking of 147, with Presbyterian (1-3 in conference) the No. 5 seed at 257.  Gardner-Webb previously indicated it would not be able to participate in this year’s championship due to injuries.

The 2026 Big South Women’s Tennis Championship will be played Thursday-Saturday, April 16-18 at the Lexington County Tennis Complex in Lexington, S.C.  The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship.  The Championship schedule is as follows and is subject to change:
