CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Longwood catcher/outfielder Jae’dan Carter (Manassas, Va.) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb’s Oliver Ellison (Knoxville, Md.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played April 20-26, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood’s JR Fordham (Chester, Ga.) was selected as the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while Radford utility Brooks Simpson (Moseley, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

Carter batted .467 (7-for-15) with 10 RBI and four runs scored while adding two doubles and a home run in four games for Longwood. He posted a .800 slugging percentage and a .550 on-base percentage, recording multiple hits and RBI in three of four contests. The junior opened the week with a double and two RBI in a 10-4 win over VMI. He then collected two hits and an RBI in Friday’s series opener at Binghamton before going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI on Saturday. Carter capped the weekend with a career-high four RBI on Sunday, adding a double and two runs scored to help the Lancers secure a 9-7 series-clinching victory. He also drew four walks on the week while striking out just once.

Ellison tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits while striking out five in Gardner-Webb’s win over first-place Winthrop on Friday. He walked three and held 33 batters faced to a .167 batting average, with all five hits surrendered coming on singles. The junior worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning before settling in, allowing just one baserunner over the final three frames while recording three of his five strikeouts in the last two innings. The outing marked his first complete game of the season and a season-low in hits allowed.

Fordham went 1-0 across two appearances, allowing no runs and no hits over 4.0 innings while striking out eight. He walked two and held all 15 batters he faced without a hit. The senior struck out the side in the ninth inning of Friday’s series opener at Binghamton, then returned Sunday to toss a season-high 3.0 innings with a season-best five strikeouts. Fordham closed out a 9-7 comeback victory to clinch the series for the Lancers.

Simpson batted .625 (10-for-16) with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBI while scoring four runs for Radford. He posted a 1.125 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage, drawing two walks on the week. The freshman recorded three multi-hit games, highlighted by a 5-for-5 performance in Sunday’s series finale at Presbyterian. In the win, Simpson homered twice and doubled twice, driving in four and scoring three times as the Highlanders secured the series victory.
