Big South Volleyball Players of the Week - Sept. 14

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern outside hitter Brynn Minter (Seal Beach, Calif.) has been selected the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week for matches played Sept. 7-13, it was announced today.  In addition, Winthrop’s Lexi Thatcher (Indianapolis, Ind.) is the Setter of the Week, while Radford’s Mia Jannazzo (Waukesha, Wis.) was voted the Libero of the Week. 
 
Minter posted 52 kills (3.71 per set), a .285 hitting percentage, 29 digs (2.07 digs), 14 services aces (0.43 per set) and 66.5 points (4.75 per set) in four matches last week.  After recording 10 kills and a service ace at Duke on Tuesday, Minter earned Co-MVP and Best Freshman awards at the Buc Dome Invitational this past weekend where she tallied 42 kills, a .305 hitting clip, 13 service aces and 55.0 total points.  She had a program freshman-record seven aces along with 11 kills and six digs in a sweep of The Citadel on Thursday, followed by a career-high 21 kills plus eight digs in a five-set loss to Cal State-Fullerton on Friday.  Minter capped her week with a 10-kill, 12-dig double-double in addition to four service aces in a 3-0 win over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
 
Thatcher racked up 129 assists (9.21 assists per set), 41 digs (2.93 per set) and 10 total blocks (0.71 per set) in matches against Ohio State (five sets), Youngstown State (four sets) and Southern Indiana (five sets).  She started with a 43-assist, 12-dig double-double vs. the Buckeyes with four blocks.  Thatcher followed with a 48-assist, 18-dig double-double against the Penguins, and concluded the weekend with 38 assists, 11 digs and five blocks against USI.
 
Jannazzo finished with 80 digs (5.33 per set) along with a team-best six service aces in four matches last week.  At the Kansas City Tournament, she dug out 23 balls vs. the host Roos, followed by 20 against Drake and 28 in a five-set setback to Utah Valley.  Jannazzo recorded two aces against both Kansas City and Utah Valley.

Also Nominated for Libero of the Week: Presley Morris (Charleston Southern), Celimar Hoyos (Presbyterian), Izzy Perkins (UNC Asheville), Sophia Overholt (USC Upstate) and Addison Torain (Winthrop).
